In the United States, approximately 90 percent of citizens who are above the age of 65 are receiving Social Security Administration benefits.
Retirement benefits are just one part of the Social Security Administration benefits program. People receiving disability benefits account for 19 percent of the total benefits that are distributed to Americans throughout the United States.
Current 20-year-olds in the United States have a one in four chance of suffering from a disability before they reach the age of 67. These disabilities can become life-altering, and can cause an individual to cease working and earning an income. This year, there will be roughly 55 million individuals receiving benefits through the SSA.
