Veterans that are returning home from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars are filing for Social Security Disability benefits at an alarming rate.
Government officials reported to the Associated Press on this topic, and revealed that 45 percent of the 1.6 million veterans from these wars are filing for disability benefits, stating that their injuries are directly related to their time serving their country.
On top of that, each veteran that is filing for the assistance is, on average, claiming to have between eight and nine different injuries that resulted from the war. Individuals who filed less than one year ago noted between 11 and 14 problems. According to the officials, the poor economy, and the ability to survive wars at a higher rate are both large factors in this increase.
